The problem with the 150 signups has been solved. There are still 90 slots available. (31st august, 9:24)
It's time to signup and secure your spot for the first Urban Zone Skeet Shoot Tournament. We've created a guide for signing up for these kinds of individual (non-clan) events, you can see it here.
Once you're signed up you still have to reserve a timeslot, head on over to this forum thread and reply with your preferred server, timeslot and day. Be sure NOT to edit your posts, make sure you got the right time and day the first time around, if you edit your post it will become void, we deal on a first come first served basis. We'll be update the signup sheet below now and then, it's not automatic. If you have problems contact an admin on #urban-zone @ quakenet.
Signups are limited to 150 competitors. We've decided not to include signups for money due to the lack of interest. If you are not one of the first 150 and still wanna compete you have the option to pay, and who knows you might get earn your money back or win more money :). Please tell us in a comment in this newspost that you still wanna compete.
This is what you'll all be fighting for, and the Skeet Shoot champion will have his name on the TV in upcoming version of the ut4_skeetshoot map for eternal fame and glory!
Now for something completely different.
Urban Zone CTF & TS Leagues I'm sure many of you have been waiting for hear when we'll start with the 10th! season of the CTF League and the 3rd season of the TS League. Signups will open September 5th and the league will start September 27th, that's one week after the skeet shoot final. Signups will close September 24th.
It seems this Skeet Shoot Tournament has been very well received. The servers have been full pretty much non-stop. The ut4_skeetshoot_2010 map has been downloaded 7800+ times, which I think is a record for a single urban terror map. Congratulations are in order for Drezil :).
We've been seeing some posts in the forums with truly great scores. I forgot to mention in the last post that during the tournament you will be shooting at 6 bots instead of 12. There are 12 now because the servers are in public mode and otherwise there would be even more stealing. The change in number of bots might make it a bit harder, but the lack of "competitors" stealing your frags will also make it a bit easier. But the rules are the same for everybody, we just wanted to make you aware of this.
Signups will open Sunday at 21:00 CET, we expect it will be busy looking at how well the idea is being received. So make sure you get one of those 150 slots.
If you are interested in competing for money, don't forget to leave a comment in either this or the the first newspost. If we don't reach a minimum of 5 paying competitors by Sunday 20:00 CET we'll ditch the idea. Be sure to have paypal because we only accept payment through paypal. To make life a bit easier for the paying competitor we'll allow him/her to signup even if the 150 are reached. But your preferred timeslot might be taken if you wait too long more about this later.
We forgot to post some details about the tournament so here they are. This tournament is sr8 only, psg is just a waste of time on this map. When your out of ammo you have to do /kill. Please don't join spectator mode in the tournament, you'll be disqualified (it's also slower). So do this "/bind x kill" if you want to waste as little time as possible. Your number of kills minus number of deaths will be your final score, it's the same number that shows at the end of the map. Also we can already tell you which days & times are available for playing the tournament. These are Wednesday (September 15) from 16:00 till 0:30, Friday (September 17) from 16:00 till 0:30 and Saturday (September 18) from 13:00 till 1:30, all times are CET. We will have 5 European servers so we can have 5 people playing at the same time, and one USA server for our friends on the other side of the pond. At the moment the servers are .nl .de and .uk if you have a French server and are willing to donate it to us for public play AND tournament play please contact us. The finals will be played Sunday, times are still unsure but expect afternoon and/or evening.

In other news.
I've been visiting some community websites to look at how people are receiving the Skeet Shoot Event, and I came across a conversation in the French forums regarding the 5 euro idea. We'd like to make it extra clear that you are not paying 5 euro's to compete in the tournament, competing is free. If you choose to pay 5 euro's it's because you want to have a chance at winning money! We're not doing this to earn money for urban-zone, the 10% we keep goes up to money transfer costs (paypal) and the remainder will go to urban-zone. The remainder will never recoup the costs we make running this site or the time we invest keeping it running. But that is a choice we make by not having advertisements on the site. This is also in part reason why urban-zone will not contribute money to the prize pot, we have no income whatsoever. We keep running because some people donate servers and loads of people donate their time for which we are very grateful.
Anyway, paying or not, it's completely up to you, we just don't want you to get the wrong idea.
This week will be maps picked by the staff! You already heard that due to the Skeet Shoot tournament which will be held on 13 - 19 September the last week of the cup will be canceled. That also means we only have 3 weeks left and if you want to catch up you need to start playing. The holidays are over for most people and the activity is coming back. We wish you a lot of fun in this week.

It gives us great pride and pleasure to announce the first Urban Zone Skeet Shoot Tournament. You may be thinking to yourself Skeet Shoot Tournament? What's that? Some of the oldskool players might be able to answer that question. Back in the old days there was an annual skeet shoot event organized by an American clan called ballz deep. It involved a map specifically designed for this by |NV|S called ut_skeetshoot and its later inception ut_skeetshoot2005. The idea of this game mode is having one team of bots fly through the air and one human on the other team who tries to shoot them out of the air. A lot like clay pigeon shooting - also known as skeet shooting. It's great practice for your SR8 skills and - as a warm up before the leagues get started - we're going to organize the Urban Zone Skeet Shoot Tournament.
Though the original maps worked they had some minor issues which is why we asked drezil to redo the map. His version is a little bit more difficult which was needed because of the bigger player models in Urban Terror 4.x. You can find ut4_skeetshoot_2010 here. Many thanks to drezil for doing this!
Signups will open on August 29th at 21:00 CET and will be limited to 150 contestants. Everyone (who is not banned) is welcome regardless of their current location. It is possible you might have to play during European times because we don't have any staff from outside Europe, but if you want to help out with this event you can contact us in IRC #urban-zone @ quakenet.
Signups are free but we're thinking of spicing things up a bit by allowing you the possibility to play for stone cold cash. This is something new for us and we have no idea how popular this idea might be, so before making a decision whether or not to move forward with this plan we'd like to get your opinions. Please comment on this news post. The signup fee will be €5.00 and the cash will be divided as follows: 1st 50%, 2nd 25%, 3rd 15%. The remaining 10% will go to Urban-Zone (no admins will profit from this money, it goes straight to Urban Zone). Just to be completely clear, there will still be free signups as well but those who sign up for free won't be competing for the cash prize. On the other hand, if you trust your sr8 skills why not give it a go.
Tournament Layout:
The tournament will be held in the week of September 13th till 19th. The following days are scheduled beforehand: Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, with the final on Sunday. Depending on the number of signups more days may be added to the preliminary stage.
Each person gets the opportunity to play 2 x 10 minutes of skeetshooting, and the better of the two attempts will count. You are not obligated to play 2 rounds; that's entirely up to you. We'll be working with timeslots of 30 minutes, in which you have to connect to the server, play your rounds, and leave. So please do not stay longer than your timeslot allows you, we have to be very strict. The timeslots available for weekdays will probably be scheduled from early evening to late night. For weekends, it'll be early afternoon to late night.
The top 10 will have to play again on Sunday the 19th to decide who will be the first Urban Zone Skeet Shoot champion. Each player will get only one 10 minute attempt on Sunday because we're planning GTV + shoutcasting and want to keep it interesting.
In case of a draw for spots in the top 10 shootouts will be held.
