Signups for Seasons 19/12/4 Are Now Open!

HomeNews

The summer is over and it's time to get cracking. We hope you've got your guns polished and your minds sharp because we are back with seasons 19/12/4 of our leagues. Signups are now open so head over to the top of the main page or to Competition to sign your team up.

SIGNUPS
1/ The signups will close on September 29. Divisions will be posted within a few days, and you will have the remainder of the week between September 30 and October 6 to schedule your first matches.
2/ You will need a minimum of 5 players to join the league.
3/ To sign up - see the top of the front page or click on the COMPETITION menu. Select the competition you want to sign up for. Now click the “chain link” button (you can see the text “sign up” when you hover your mouse over it) next to the competition you want and you will be signed up!
4/ Do not forget to edit your roster, erase all players who left, add all new players, and edit permissions for your trusted players and captains.
5/ Make sure your teammates set up their aliases and auth.
6/ Sign-up instructions for NEW team leaders and registration instructions for other players can be found in our manual HERE.
7/ Do not forget to fill in your team contact information in this website (team website, irc channel, contact email, etc.) – if we are unable to contact you and verify your signup, you will be removed from signups.

IMPORTANT:
ALL players in both leagues have to be registered. Multiclanning within one competition is not allowed. However, players are allowed to play in one CTF team, another BOMB team, and yet another TS team. Do not – repeat: DO NOT – create accounts for your teammates. We are able to reference IP addresses and your team will not be allowed to sign up if we find one person faking accounts for others. Because we also have clans competing from outside Europe we want clans to set the correct country flag. Also we expect all players to know the rules and abide by them, so (re)acquaint yourself with them.

RULE CHANGES:
1/ Players are obligated to upload their demos after every match. If a player does not upload his/her demo, the player is not allowed to play any other matches in any UZ competition of the season. If a player plays a match despite not uploading demos in a previous match, he/she will be treated as a non-roster player.
2/ Teams will only be able to use each map ONE TIME PER SEASON. That means that once you pick a map, you cannot choose it again in the league you chose it for (if you pick Turnpike in CTF, you cannot use it in CTF this season again but you can use it in TS).
3/ Teams in the cup groups will only be allowed to use each map once per group stage and then once in the playoff stage. This is your chance to show everyone you're not just muscle - that you are able to think strategically.
4/ If you try to bypass the rules and play a map again, the map will be automatically forfeited.
5/ You will not be allowed to change maps 48 hours before match time. If you forget to change your map before the 48 hour deadline, you will have to play whatever map was entered for you in the match page.
6/ Matches played on Monday and Tuesday of any week need to have their maps entered until Monday noon (1200 PM).
7/ Playoff matches must be scheduled by Wednesday midnight of the match week and played by Sunday midnight.
8/ US servers are equal with European servers. (i.e. US server can be used as a league server and as a home server.)
9/ Moscow (Russia) servers are equal with other European servers.

We promised you a couple special events before the season starts. Due to some technical hickups, we were forced to postpone them but not cancel them. You will still get your chance to prove how good you are at skeet and knockout before we kick off the season for real.

Good Luck and Have Fun!

US and Russia server should still be illegal between european teams, to prevent abuse.

try it. the idea actually came as a suggestion from other players. you already play at least 7 maps regularly - in each gametype. it's not that big of a change

This "1 map" doesn't change anything in fact. Per group you have 4-6 teams let's say. That's 4-6 maps, that are being chosen per clan. In result, we still get streams with same maps since 1999. If each group consisted 10+ teams, that would mean 10+ maps to be played - then there are chances to watch match in different level than always-the-same-ones.

Urban Zone needs Quake-alike rules - map pools per event announced before actual competition starts, so ofc teams can prepare. In Quake community this works flawlessly, since always you get majority of maps, that are "standard" + few that are "seasonal" and deliver variety factor to each competition.

If you want all maps to be played, cb rotation system is quite good.
This way a clan is forced to make a plan what maps they will play vs each team in the season, probably leaving their best maps for the strongest opponents. So its possible that would be the last matches in the season... and somewhere in the middle that team/teams drop out (what is not rarely)... Then you have situation where u could have used your "home" map before and maybe win the match but u didnt... and that effects your position in the group

Good thoughts.
What do you think they meant with "This is your chance to show everyone you're not just muscle - that you are able to think strategically." ?

Looks like you have a good start Wink

interesting idea. let me think about it

This is a little dramatic, don't you think? The whole idea is to broaden people's experiences, it's not meant to be punishment. I hope to see people flourish in creating strats for maps that might be somewhat outside of their comfort zone.

The way how you handled it is a lil bit harsh. It is a gamechanger in my mind. May u should have started with a rule like: " You have to play 3 different homemaps in this season". To get people used to your new system.

Espacially for new clans or new players it is much more difficult to learn every week positions/tactics of 2 maps then 1 map.

But... Lets see what will happen to the number of signups and dropouts.

The most important thing is, that the 48h rule is being enforced in a consequent manner, if this system is to work for everyone. What will be the punishment for not calling your map? Simply playing the default map? If that happens to be a map played for the second time, will teams still forfeit that map automatically?

Because I would like to see FairPlay actually benefiting teams that execute it, but the rules need to be upheld along with it.

I'm hoping for the best, but I will remain worried. And btw I think Timbeaux is on the right when saying that each map only once is a bit overkill to begin with. Anyway gl & hf to everyone this season! Smile

It is something that will be closely monitored. If anything ever seems out of place, feel free to catch us on IRC so we can go over it.

hi all. i agree with the concept of trying something different about those map issues, but i disagree with the part that im obligated to play different maps. i think that if it was a suggestion of other players (not all) we should be able to choose how we wanna play it. only with one map or change maps every cw. best regards
