| Season 6 – our largest season with more than 70 teams which finished the season successfully – has come to an end and it has been a trying but also interesting time. We would like to congratulate all teams, especially all the new teams who played with a lot of spirit – and some with a surprising amount of skill - and simply refused to give up. Most of the season went without major problems and for the first time in a long time, we didn’t have to ban any teams. We have to thank you for being disciplined and playing nicely, but we also have to thank our devoted staff who did a lot of work and spent a lot of time helping us run the show. We couldn’t have done this without you, guys. Some divisions were very close and the final positions of the teams were decided in the very last games, and some divisions had clear winners from early on. We actually saw two clans reach and surpass the 90% efficiency level – Speed-Live Clan from Division 9 and Kingdom of Stars from Division 5 – and they MAY promote over one division. Puff in Division 1 proved to be the uncontested winner again and caught up with <fg>’s ages old two-victory streak from seasons one and two. In the other divisions, we saw freshly promoted teams take the lead in the higher division they promoted to – s2 sailed right through division 2, and so did nux" in division 3, zT// in division 4, <KoS> in division 5, IIN in division 6, and FFF:/ in division 7. But enough blabbering, let’s get down to the awards: Division 1: First place = puff** Second place = hg". Division 2: First Place = s2 Second Place = -=BUG=- Division 3: First Place = nux" Second Place = FW* Division 4: First Place = zT// Second Place = >iT< Division 5: First Place = <KoS> Second Place = <GD> Division 6: First Place = IIN Second Place = mS* Division 7: First Place = FFF:/ Second Place = >pS< Division 8: First Place = -=S2D=- Second Place = {95th} Division 9: First Place = -sL Second Place = +OC+ Division 10: First Place = -jS# Second Place = [-&-] Division Asia-Pacific: First Place = kp10. Second Place = |CC| Sportsmanship Award: This is always one of the toughest awards to give, but this season there were two clear candidates. The first one was the Speed-Live Team - they were easy-going and cooperative and they were willing to consider even the more ridiculous demands of their opponents. The second team was easy Company who entered the first division knowing they were going to have an extremely hard time but unlike other teams before them never said a word about it and fought their best without a note of complaint. And the sportsmanship award goes to… both these teams and they both deserve it. That said, there were quite a few other teams which went out of their way to cooperate with their opponents and who showed the right spirit and would deserve to be mentioned here as well. Special kudos goes to Division 10 teams who had to fight in a thinned out division but fought to the very end. Match of the Season: There were several candidates for this award, such as bug and s2 for their epic game. But the award goes to Un" and -|FK|- for their thriller of a match which was decided by a single capture: match report . Most Improved: In season 6, we saw many, many teams improve beyond our wildest expectations – for example FW*, zT//, s2, or [UrTu]. But when it comes to real improvement, we were all surprised by team nux" who promoted into the division they ended up winning. Our congratulations. Golden Dildo Award: Every season, we find someone we would like to give this award to. But since this season the staff only voted for individual players who deserve this dishonorable mention, we decided to award no golden dildo award and are happy to do so. Golden Pacifier Award: This is our newest award, but it’s becoming quite popular. And this season, there was one clear candidate – and thus one clear laureate – for this specific kind-of-honor. With a smile, we award it to team SexyChicks which not only consists of not so sexy guys and thus does not live up to its name but which also threatened to leave the league if they didn’t get to replay a match they lost by forfeit due to their own mess-up. To their defense, they did finish the season and we give them the pacifier to prevent similar outbursts of passion in the future. Our winners are free to pick up their awards here (http://urban-zone.org/league/index.php?league=1&season=9&op=awards) – we hope you enjoy them and we definitely hope to dole out some more in the summer cup and in Season 7! Allow us to congratulate the winners once more and remind everyone else that it might be them who reach the highest ranks next season. We will take a break in the summer, but we will not be idle. In the course of the next week or two we will open up the 2009 Urban Zone Summer Cup with free signups (signups will be open all through the summer so that teams can join and play any time) and we will bring you Season 7 right after you return from your summer holidays. But, before we start competing again, we have a few more surprises. Just like last season, we are preparing an allstar game for you and we will publish details very soon, so don’t forget to check out the website regularly. As a bonus, we are trying to prepare a show-off match from the Asia-Pacific Division – with gtv and shoutcast! – to let you all have a look at the quality in our “panda-koala” division and your prospective opponents for the summer cup. We will announce specific dates, times and conditions as soon as possible. |
