This seems to be an exciting topic, so I did some testing.

I recorded a video with 1000 frames per second from Godul's demo, and than used frame-by-frame steps (for millisecond precision) to get the exact time of events.

The starting point is where the game timer hit 0:00 (click on the tiny pics, for a larger version).





0.799 seconds after the timer hit 0:00, the "Timelimit hit" message came up.



At this point, I tought, that the game timer works in a way, that 0:00 means, that 0 seconds left, and you are in the last second of the game.

However the capture came 1.248 second after the game clock hit 0:00, so even if my above mentioned idea is correct, the capture came after the 10 minute marker with a 100% certainty.

Finally, the scores screen came 2.148 second after the game clock hit 0:00.

I can't explain neither the 1248 ms (to the 0:00 mark) nor the 248 ms (to the 0:00 + 1 sec mark) extra time he was able to cap the flag with network lag, as Godul's ping was only 48 ms.

I think it must be an issue with the game's event system, like the kills in TS when the round ends in a draw, but you can still get individual kill points, killing your opponent between the finished round and the new round.

Rather interesting topic, I must say.

Ok lets explain our stance here. Please note that this decision is final and will not be changed.

The clocks as you know within Urban Terror are only accurate "So Far" and this can differ from client to client. However there are a few things which are consistant.

1 of which is its the server who instructs the client that the "Game is Over" at which point the client runs its "End of Game Cycle" which is to display the scoreboard amongst other things.

While it seems not possible, if the server hitches a few times for any reason, a few hundred ms a time will creap away from the world timer, producing what I call a "Hitch Delay" at the end of the game. This is still valid game time (see it as a server pausing its self for a few MS while it cant do the works properly), because it apears to the client that the game ends then the cap happens, that is attualy NOT the case. THe client displays the End message its self when its local timer hits "zero", the scoreboard is displayed when the client is instructed the game is over.

These are VERY different things. As such the final breakdown is thus.

Abbey: PHX 7+2(9) || SG 1+8(9) - Map Drawn
Algiers: PHX 4+3(7) || SG 3+17 - SG Map Win

Final Maps won is PHX (0) || SG (1)

As such SG wins the war and 5 points awarded.

Thanks for clearing that up, RaideR.

I think that's an answer we can accept, as we simply didn't know the technicalities of what actually happened. To those without the technical knowledge it looks wrong. It's a very interesting event, which I doubt has happened very often (especially when it's a breaking point in the match).

So yeah, we accept the decision made and will move on, like we always do. Better luck next time!

GG, SG. I had hoped we could have won from you, as I'm sure the skill between us is pretty much the same, but it was not to be yesterday. Thanks for the match, and good luck in your next matches. :>

I feel for you Phx i understand that this is a letdown,
but i also feel very happy for my team emotions never had been so high like in this last moment cap.

Thx for the detailed explanation and the ton of work the UZL admins put into resolving this.

Even though the loss for you, you produced my VERY BEST URT expierience EVAR, i never played a match before that was so intense the whole way through, never had such an emotional expierience in a computer game (maybe Aries death in FF VII came close)
